High Temperatures & Heat Index

Menifee Pony always considers safety when deciding whether or not to reschedule or cancel games. Extreme weather can possibly cause us to cancel games, as can conditions like heavy smoke from forest fires.

Below is the information related to possible rescheduling due to heat conditions. We use the Heat Index, which is a calculation using both temperature and humidity.

HEAT INDEX:95-99
Drink ample amounts of water, take water breaks if half-innings run longer than 20 minutes.

HEAT INDEX: 100-104
Drink ample amounts of water during games. Practice times should be adjusted. Catchers gear time should be limited. Water breaks if half-innings run longer than 15 minutes. Game times may be adjusted or rescheduled still, but it's on a case-by-case basis.

HEAT INDEX: 105+
Practices canceled.  Games postponed, rescheduled if possible.

HOT WEATHER TIPS
• Make sure each player drinks 4 to 8 ounces of water 15 minutes prior to practice or game.
• It is recommended that each team bring cool towels to help cool off participants.
• Coaches should keep an eye on each player to look for signs of heat-related illnesses such as: flush face, irritability, nausea and or vomiting, and lack of sweat. If any of these symptoms occur, please address them appropriately.

The above are merely guidelines and it is the responsibility of parents to make the ultimate decision as to the participation of their child. When hot weather or air quality may be a factor, please take into consideration the age and physical condition of your child. Parents also have the ultimate responsibility to inform their child about the dangers of the weather and air quality.
